All of us have friends and loved ones who have strayed and no longer attend church. It is heartbreaking. It looks like there are some excellent resources coming out in August to help us care for those who have been "De-churched".
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" Matthew 21:9 ESV
''Poor, Miserable Sinner'' Doesn't Mean What You Probably Think When we confess that we are ''poor, miserable sinners,'' we aren't saying how terrible we feel. As in, ''It's so hot in here I'm miserable.'' Miserable comes from the Latin word for mercy. We are saying, ''I am poor so I have nothing to offer. And I am miserable, that is, in need of your mercy.'' To be a miserable sinner is to be in need of Christ's mercy. In other words, to be exactly the kind of person in whom the Lord delights, for he delights in nothing more than showing mercy. ~ Chad L. Bird
Pastor Standfest and Bob Milbrandt (elder at St Paul, Boone) are home from the Doxology Encore training in Kansas. Special thanks to their wives, Kira Standfest and Danielle Milbrandt, for letting them attend this important training. Check out Doxology on Facebook or www.Doxology.us for more information about their advanced training for pastors and congregational leaders.
As we look toward Christmas, it is good to know the true origins of December 25. This marks 9 months after the Annunciation and death of Jesus. Christmas was not selected to combat a pagan holiday. http://www.touchstonemag.com/archives/article.php?id=16-10-012-v
